Hello! I'm Damian.

First and foremost, I'm a father to my two children, Joseph and Hannah, who are my daily reminder of the importance of living a life of purpose.

Like many men, I know the pressure of navigating a demanding career while trying to be the man I want to be for my family and community. It’s the core challenge of modern life: how do you build a successful career without sacrificing your health, your integrity, or your sense of adventure?

My answer to that question has been guided by a simple but powerful principle I learned as a boy in Scouts: "Good, Better, Best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better, and your better is best." This idea, that we are on a continuous journey of growth, is the core of my existence. It's not about reaching a final destination, but about embracing the discipline of becoming a better version of ourselves.

This path of "Good, Better, Best" began for me in service. Through organisations like Rotary and Scouting, I was given incredible opportunities - from being an exchange student to an Ambassadorial Scholar - to learn the principles of leadership and community. Each experience, whether growing a Rotaract district by 300% or taking on leadership roles, was a new challenge that pushed me to learn and adapt.

That trail has also taken me to the outdoors, through the discipline of earning the Springbok and BP Awards, and eventually to the summit of Kilimanjaro in 2023. These expeditions taught me resilience and that the greatest achievements are simply the result of many small, consistent steps.

Today, as a management consultant, I apply this same mindset to help solve complex problems in the boardroom. But at home here in Pretoria, I apply it to the most important expedition I have: being a dad.

The Compass is the result of this lifelong process of trying to integrate these different worlds. It is the practical framework I built to navigate the tension between a demanding career, my duties as a father, and my commitment to a life of service and adventure. It’s my hope that it will help you on your own journey.
